Making a difference
At Charter Savings Bank we’re passionate about providing positive opportunities for people to better their lives, and through our sponsorship programmes we’re delivering support to the people in our communities who need it most.
Regardless of the start you have in life, saving what you can afford from an early age is a great habit to get into, and so we’re working with our partners to deliver brighter futures through education, teamwork and sport starting with children as young as five.
This year we launched the Try Saving campaign, using our rugby partnerships to encourage everyone to perform a #TrySaving tackle on their finances. By getting into the habit of putting money away more regularly, regardless of the amount, you’ll be taking great strides towards the life experiences you’ve always dreamed of.
Whether you’re excited about buying the home of your dreams, planning the holiday of a lifetime, or looking forward to your retirement, there are many different ways to convert your savings goals into reality and help keep your financial wellbeing worry-free.
Coventry Rugby
In 2019, Charter Savings Bank launched a partnership with Coventry Rugby to become the Title Partner for both the Rugby & Reading, and Rugby in Schools programmes.
Charter Savings Bank's history is rooted in the West Midlands and the partnership with Coventry Rugby means we're able to work together to deliver two impactful programmes to help inspire young children through sport.
Led by one of Coventry's first team players, Rugby & Reading sessions are designed to encourage 5-11 year olds to read more, before enjoying a hands-on game of tag rugby.
Through the Rugby in Schools programme, we're providing fun coaching sessions for 5-16 year olds, led by first team players and coaches.
Working together, we’ll deliver over 100 hours of rugby-based learning to schools in Coventry and the wider West Midlands area.
Wolverhampton Rugby
Since Charter Savings Bank's partnership with Wolverhampton Rugby began in 2015, we’ve supported them in both on and off field initiatives, helping the club firmly establish their status in the Midlands Rugby league.
We're proud of our commitment to encourage healthy community relationships. In 2016 we supported the club with renovations to their changing room facilities, which are used by up to 15 of Wolverhampton's development teams.
It’s important to us that we make a real difference to our partners and in 2019 we upgraded the club's Castlecroft base with a brand new pitch-side electronic scoreboard, providing up-to-the-minute information for around 200 grassroots rugby fans each week.
Socks and Chocs
Since Charter Savings Bank launched in 2015, we've helped raise over a quarter of a million pounds to support local community charities that our people are passionate about.
In 2017, Socks & Chocs became our official charity partner. We’ve built an amazing partnership, donating well over £200,000 to Socks and Chocs alone, which has helped them to relieve hardship and distress amongst vulnerable people in towns and cities across the UK.
Socks & Chocs started out in 2010 providing vulnerable people on the streets of Birmingham with fresh socks and bars of chocolate. Now, with our support, they’ve grown into a national charity that has received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, distributing essential items such as bedding, toiletries and clothes, as well as funding temporary accommodation to those who need it most.
We increased our support for Socks and Chocs in 2019 by delivering a step-change in the way we work in partnership to support our community, through events like the Shrewsbury Dragonboat Race, the Birmingham & Midlands Velo cycling event and many team-based fundraising initiatives.
Giving back
As well as our major sporting and charity partnerships, Charter Savings Bank also offers a ‘Good Causes’ fund that we use to support special charity events being undertaken by, or linked to, our people or their families. We also have longstanding relationships, working with Alvechurch & Hopwood and Fillongley Cricket Clubs.
